Old French Fairytales (1920)


Old French Fairy Tales by Comtesse De Segur; illustrated by Virginia Frances Sterrett; 1920; The Penn publishing company, Philadelphia.

In 1920, Sterrett received her first commission at the tender age of 19 from The Penn Publishing Company to illustrate Old French Fairy Tales – a collection of works from the 19th Century French author, Comtesse de Ségur (Sophie Fedorovna Rostopchine). Shortly after completing the work Sterrett was diagnosed with tuberculosis from which she died 11 years later at the age of 30.
