The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom and holds over 150 million items from many countries, in many languages and in many formats, both print and digital: books, manuscripts, journals, newspapers, magazines, sound and music recordings, videos, play-scripts, patents, databases, maps, stamps, prints, drawings. They have an ever growing digitised collection and, although not all is openly licensed, in early 2012 they dedicated their Online Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts to the public domain and released various sets of openly licensed images via Wikimedia Commons.
