Trouvelot’s Aurora Borealis
DESIGN: Plate from The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings published in 1882, a collection of 15 pastel works created by the French artist, astronomer and amateur entomologist Étienne Léopold Trouvelot. As well as the more than 7000 high quality illustrations he created from his astronomical observations, Trouvelot’s slightly more unfortunate legacy was the accidental widespread introduction of the highly destructive European Gyspy moth onto North American soil.
